Portland Police Chief Mike Reese may be coming late to the race for Portland mayor, but supporters are banking on his name recognition and position to win the conservative, law enforcement vote, and his ties to the business community to put him in striking distance as a viable candidate.

The chief confirmed on Wednesday rumors that have swirled for weeks about his possible candidacy to take advantage of what remains a wide open race. Political consultants talked up his credentials to business and civic leaders after an October poll commissioned by the Portland Business Alliance revealed that none of the three announced candidates has made an overwhelming impression on voters.

Reese himself refused to say Wednesday who is backing his run, or what he would do as mayor. He said he'll make a final decision on whether to run within two weeks.

"Some people who I really respect asked me to run.

Law Interview – Alex Ibrahimov | Aspire Magazine | Changing the ...

We had a rather overzealous careers service back at School, which often invited City professionals during lunch times to give presentations about their work. They once invited solicitors from a City law firm in, to give a presentation about life as a commercial lawyer. I found it incredibly interesting and decided to try and get some work experience prior to committing to law. I was consequently fortunate enough to spend a week at a magic circle firm and saw that the practical realities were both challenging and intellectually stimulating, and so I was sold.

I guess in a way it was a natural progression. Once I got to university I very quickly came to appreciate that not only does law give you quite a lot of flexibility in that you could move into other industries relatively easily having worked as a lawyer, but also that it’s an incredibly dynamic profession given that its always changing.

Don’t stop trying! Getting a training contract is incredibly difficult in this job market; with fears of a double dip recession the competition is only going to intensify. I had over 20 interviews before I got a TC, its incredibly important to prepare thoroughly for interviews. As the old age wisdom goes “failing to prepare is preparing to fail”.
