Mock Trial "Showdown" at Widener Law

Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes, former Homicide judge of the Court of Common Pleas and current CEO of the Southeastern District of Pennsylvania Chapter for the American Red Cross, Fortunato (Fred) Perri, high-profile defense attorney, named "Super Lawyer" by Philadelphia Magazine from 2004-2009, and Carlos Vega, Assistant District Attorney for the Homicide Division of the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, joined Widener University School of Law and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, to perform a mock trial on Tuesday, October 25.

The event was open to the public and followed the guidelines of the 2010 Phi Alpha Delta National Mock Trial Packet. This packet includes a high-profile defendant, an owner of a large finance company, a young immigrant "victim", and an undiscovered body.

Perri and Vega displayed how to conduct a murder trial, while putting on an impressive show of the techniques and skills they have acquired during their careers. More than 150 students attended, including some of Judge Hughes' Villanova University Law School students. The event was held in Ruby Vale Courtroom, which is the largest venue at Widener University School of Law’s Delaware Campus. This courtroom has housed events such as Delaware Supreme Court Arguments and nationally televised Congressional debates.
