The straightforward guide to surviving and thriving in law schoolEvery year more than 40,000 students enter law school and at any given moment there are over 125,000 law school students in the United States. Law school's highly pressurized, super-competitive atmosphere often leaves students stressed out and confused, especially in their first year. Balancing life and schoolwork, passing the bar, and landing a job are challenges that students often need help facing. In Law School For Dummies, former law school student Rebecca Fae Greene uses straight talk, sound advice, and gentle humor to help students sort through the swamp of coursework and focus on what's important-all while maintaining a life. She also offers rare insight on the law school experience for women, minorities, non-traditional, and non-Ivy League students.

A chilling trend for academic freedom
The hearing on the American Tradition Institute's Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the University of Virginia seeking Michael Mann's records is set for Tuesday, Nov. 1 before Judge Gaylord Finch in Prince William County Court. The hearing was postponed from September after Finch said he wanted to allow more time for arguments because of the case's significance.

Social media for law firm leaders – Law Firm Web Strategy
I recently had a conversation with Sean Larkan , my Australia-based colleague with Edge International, about what law firm leaders need to know about social media. That conversation led to a Q&A that Sean has now posted on his Legal Leaders Blog . It’s a lengthy post, so here are some of the highlights; if these look interesting, I encourage you to click through and read the full version.
1. It seems that many leaders regard social media as something that should be left to “marketing” or “communications.” What role, if any, should leaders play?
Leaders who regard marketing and communications as not meriting their attention are either too busy for their own good or don’t fully appreciate the degree to which a law firm’s reach and reputation is linked to its business success. For social media to really catch on within a firm, there has to be clear buy-in from the top — not just from the managing partner, but to the extent possible, from senior rainmakers and other influencers....
Laying down the (packaging) law | Packaging World
The Food and Drug Administration is under fire as never before. Environmental law developments around the globe continue to expand and become more complex. Properly coded packages helping federal, state, and local governmental organizations get to the root of food recalls. And don’t look now, but nanotechnology is beginning to make a positive impact in the packaging world. The FDA is under fire not just from Capitol Hill, but also from consumers whose trust in the agency is waning. Budget limitations are becoming especially vexing as the number of foods, beverages and drugs continue to expand. “Fifteen percent of the food in the United States is imported,” said Acheson. “With seafood it’s 80 percent, and with produce it’s between 50 and 60 percent.” Other changes and challenges for the FDA, he said, are “increasing numbers of high-risk individuals, including the elderly and immune-compromised, new food-borne pathogen...
