Ames, Ia. — Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann delivered what her campaign described as a major policy address on the economy at Iowa State University this afternoon.

The following is full text of the speech:

“I’m happy to be back at Iowa State, the place that gave me a victory in the Iowa Straw Poll and where the Cyclones were victorious over their rival Hawkeyes this fall.  Though I warn you that true to political form, I’ll express my sympathy to them the next time I’m in Iowa City.

“In a letter to Thomas Jefferson, John Adams wrote, “You and I ought not to die before we have explained ourselves to each other.”  Before our struggling economy falls into further free fall, I offer my opinion about the best course of action to solve our economic problems.

“As an Iowan and a former federal tax attorney and a creator of a small business, I can think of no better place than Iowa State University to offer my “explanation” of how to turn our economy around into the crucible of public debate.  I am running for President because of the young people present here today.  I have a personal interest in you because I have raised 28 children like you, whose future I worry about every day.  This race is about you and what your future holds.

The world is indeed changing… Years of consistent frustration over all the negative news, shallow advice, and lack of enlightening information out there in the media world melted-in-an-instant as soon as I began reading the debut issue of Law of Attraction Magazine. What struck me first was the beautiful cover. Upon opening it, I was pleasantly surprised to see not one advertisement, a huge breath of fresh air right there. The articles piqued my interest in every case and provided real life advice and valuable wisdom, empowering the reader to attract their desired realities in all aspects of their lives. I anxiously await the next issue with much joy and gratitude.

The nerve specialist leans forward to examine my atrophied, pencil-thin left arm. He gently says, “Now lie still. This might hurt.”

He inserts long, silver needles into the left side of my neck and shoulder. The dial on the barometer jumps and dances quietly. I muffle my cries of pain by biting into my right fist.

“Only a few more minutes now,” he says. “Don’t move. I need you to be perfectly still to chart the activity of your nerves.”

About one month ago, I had cancer surgery. The large sarcoma tumor that lay in my right chest wall, suffocating my right lung and growing tentacles around my ribs, was removed. Two days later, my left deltoid seized up in spasms from a morphine injection. This resulted in the paralysis of my left arm.

After what seems to be a long time, the doctor says, “Well, the nerve has definitely been cut, and it is very unlikely that it will ever reconnect. You have wasting of the deltoid muscle and the supra- and infraspinatus muscles of the scapula. I’m sorry, but you will never regain the use of your left arm.”
