Should I keep my law school textbooks or sell them back?

I know I'll probably never use them again, and they'll likely collect dust, but I paid so much for them, and the buyback price is minimal compared to what I paid for them. E.g. Contracts book was purchased for $145 new and the buyback is $18.

I have been told that no lawyer will need his/her textbooks, so I sold mine at the end of just about every semester. I NEVER sold them back to the bookstore - it's a huge ripoff. I made the best money selling them on Amazon.

Leadership in the Fund Industry — The Harvard Law School Forum ...

What is the critical factor for success in the U.S. mutual fund industry? Is it top-ranked investment performance, innovative products, or pervasive distribution? In our view, it is none of these factors, despite their obvious importance. Instead, the best predictors of success in the U.S. fund business are the focus and organization of the fund sponsor. We believe that the most successful managers over the next decade will be organizations with two characteristics: dedication primarily to asset management and control by investment professionals. Our view is based on research for the book The Fund Industry: How Your Money Is Managed (Pozen and Hamacher 2011).

Dedicated asset managers—firms deriving a majority of their revenues from investment management—dominate the industry, as shown in Table 1 . The table ranks U.S. fund families by assets under management in 1990, 2000, and 2010 and shows dedicated asset managers in boldface. At the end of 2010, 8 of the top 10 firms were dedicated to investment management, as were 14 of the top 25 firms. Dedicated firms have held this dominant position for the past 20 years; in 1990, 13 of the top 25 firms were dedicated to asset management, only 1 fewer than in 2010....

Pfizer Reports Higher Profits and Share Buyback Plan - NYTimes.com

Pfizer, the world’s largest drug company, surprised Wall Street in a good way Tuesday with higher-than-expected quarterly sales and an aggressive plan to respond to looming generic competition to Lipitor, the top-selling drug in the world.

Pfizer also increased its huge share buyback program, and investors responded by bidding the stock up by 0.36 percent, to $19.33 a share, even as all 29 other stocks in the Dow Jones industrial average lost value on European debt concerns. The Dow fell 2.48 percent.

As the exception, Pfizer reported quarterly profits of 62 cents a share, excluding special items, easily beating the consensus analyst expectation of 56 cents a share. Especially strong were overseas sales and the animal and nutrition businesses, which Pfizer is planning to sell or spin off by 2013 as it focuses more on pharmaceutical drugs.

At the same time, Pfizer executives said they were negotiating with payers and pharmacy benefit managers to preserve branded Lipitor sales against generic competition. Lipitor loses United States patent protection on Nov. 30. The cholesterol drug had $10.7 billion in sales last year, more than 15 percent of Pfizer’s total of $67.8 billion sales.
