Turkey: Arrests Expose Flawed Justice System

The arrests are part of a crackdown on people engaged in legal political activity with the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party. Ragip Zarakolu, the publisher, and Busra Ersanli, the professor, are among 50 people who have been arrested in Istanbul since Oct. 27. Three were released by the prosecutor and 47 brought before Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14, which remanded 44 to prison and released 3 pending trial.

“The arrests of Ragip Zarakolu and Busra Ersanli represent a new low in the misuse of terrorism laws to crush freedom of expression and association in Turkey,” said Emma Sinclair-Webb, a Turkey researcher at Human Rights Watch.

All 47 suspects will be charged for alleged links to the Turkish Assembly of the Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK/TM), a body connected with the leadership of the armed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Under a widening police operation over the past two and a half years, thousands of people associated with the Peace and Democracy Party or related political circles have been charged for alleged links to the KCK/TM or PKK.

Use The Law Of Reciprocity To Book Party Plan Business Show ...

I experienced it myself yesterday at the local farmers’ market where I do my weekly shopping and realized it only in retrospect.

I have read about the power of the law of reciprocity in books on sales as well been involved in training and workshop activities that taught the law of reciprocity, but I had never really recognized it as a force in my life until yesterday.

I am a regular and somewhat locally (in)famous customer at the market so I often get offered free products.

At one produce stand where I shop every week I asked if they had any other avocados that were riper than those on the shelf. She immediately pulled 5 from a box in the back that were VERY ripe and said you can have these for free.

To which I replied they are really ripe! Some may need thrown away and some may be partly good. (Kind of like bananas, you want your avocados ripe but not over ripe and they often look worse outside than in....

The Dewey Library Blog: What's New In Reference?

Well, you my friend are in for a big surprise, because here at the Dewey Library there are always new, interesting, and helpful titles being added to the reference collection! Prove it, you say? That is exactly what I aim to do in this post. Below you will find some of the newest additions to the Dewey reference collection; they cover various subjects and will no doubt be useful to you for simple and even advanced research needs.

A.L.A. Guide to Medical & Health Sciences Reference Another in the long line of ALA reference guides, this book provides resources related to medical and health reference. It is divided into chapters on various aspects of the medical filed and within these chapters it provides annotated lists of print and electronic resources related to the medical field. This text even covers internet resources as well as collections of digital images. The book does focus on the United States primarily, but does highlight some international resources. This will be of great use to IST students.
