Kent MacCarter: How did a boy from Wellington, NZ – with early teenage years in Sydney – become the heir apparent to Andy Warhol’s Superstars, the Velvet Underground and the epitome of New York ‘cool’?

Dean Wareham: I don’t know if I’m cool or not; that of course is highly subjective, and it’s hard to say why life turns out one way rather than another, but I was fortunate that my parents moved, first to Sydney (in 1970), then to New York City (in 1977). One of my teachers at Sydney Grammar School told my parents they were making a terrible mistake by taking me to New York, but it was a fortuitous time to arrive there.

Elections for the 2011-2012 SBA Board of Governors will be held on April 20-21 in the bookstore.

All students will receive a 20% off discount on any supplement text book or study aid and 10% off all logo items if you vote on April 20 or 21. Discounts only available if you vote in the bookstore.

Congratulations to Bevin Carroll (4L eve.), Joseph Beer (3L day), Yosef Klein (3L day), Hazel Gumbs (3L evening), and Justin Haber (ISBA rep.) — your positions were uncontested!

Candidates:

Because no one can accomplish this goal without the support of the whole student body, I believe that I would do the best job leading you next year.  I have already demonstrated my ability to lead and work closely with the student body.  This past year I served as SBA Treasurer.  In that capacity I worked closely with all the student organization leaders and listened to their suggestions.  With those suggestions, I spearheaded the overhaul of our finance process to make it easier and more efficient.  Accordingly, SBA was able to end the year with a budget surplus after starting this year with a $40,000 debt.  Additionally, my involvement in Kent’s top ranked Trial Advocacy Team and three other student groups makes me a connected and capable candidate for this job.  We have a lot of work to do to seriously improve our school, and I eagerly look forward to the privilege of leading you in that effort.
