Economy Forces Families Back Under 1 Roof
RINDGE, N.H. -- Multigenerational families are making a comeback as a solution to the uneasy job market and the rocky economy.
Census figures show that nationwide, multigenerational households jumped from 46 million to 51 million. In New Hampshire, there were more than 12,000 homes where young adults moved back in with their parents, sometimes bringing a spouse and children along. Lynn Stewart, of Rindge, said she remembers the day her son called from South Carolina, where he was working in construction. "When 2008 rolled around, the housing market fell apart, he called me up and said, 'Mom. I'm coming home. I have two kids and a wife,'" she said. Stewart said she didn't hesitate welcoming her son and his family back into her home. "It was a nice house for two kids," she said. The Co-operative’s legal services arm has made a trio of hires to launch a family law operation as it gears up to convert to an Alternative Business Structure (ABS).
The Co-operative Legal Services (CLS) has recruited the trio from London boutique TV Edwards to head up the launch, which has been made possible by the reforms ushered in by the Legal Services Act (LSA) this month.
TV Edwards managing partner Jenny Beck and partner Christina Blacklaws are set to join CLS alongside business development and strategy head Chris May. The trio will be responsible for developing the family law service for CLS, should it be granted a licence by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
CLS managing director Eddie Ryan commented: “We are working extremely hard with the SRA in preparation for the introduction of ABSs and we look forward to being able to provide a full range of legal services to our members and customers.”
