What did women from china wear in the 14th-17th century?

I am looking for some pictures of what women wore in china when the european renaissance was going on. Every year I go to the renaissance festival and dress up, and in 2009 I was thinking of going dressed in traditional chinese clothing.

If you go to youtube.com and type in "hanfu" you will get a long list of videos with traditional chinese costumes. But the period you are after are specifically Ming and Qing dynasty which is contemporary to the renaissance of europe.

Pre-modern European economy, one thousand years (10th-19th centuries)
Pre-modern European economy, one thousand years (10th-19th centuries) In Friesland, for example, in the second half of the 17th century, ... and perhaps a small rise in the quantity of clothes each person owned. ...

The book deals with the characters and evolution of the European economy from the high Middle Ages until the start of modern growth in the 19th century. Europe is always set in a global context and the European specific features are analysed on the background of the world economy. The main aim of the book is to present a clear picture of the structure and organisation of the European pre-modern economy, specifying its features, institutions, constraints and differences with other traditional coeval economies. The path followed starts from the demographic characters, the techniques, the sectors (agriculture, trade, industry), the output, and continues with the demand side (consumption, investment, public expense). The last chapter recalls the main features of the pre-modern economy in a more formal way. The book is the only available work dealing with the formation of the European economy and its features over the long term, that is from...

National Geographic jumps into debate over Spanish explorer

Over the past three years, diggers have discovered approximately a shoe box full of glass beads. Experts on Late Medieval Spanish culture have determined that these beads date from the 16th or early 17th century.  Such beads have also been found in large quantities along the coast of Georgia, where there were at least 21 Spanish missions, and in northwest Georgia, where the de Soto Expedition is known to have spent much of the summer of 1540.  However, the northwest Georgia sites have also given up numerous examples of 16th century Spanish weapons and armor, plus a jeweled crucifix.

Hernando de Soto was a Spanish nobleman, who served as a captain in Spain’s destruction of the Inca Empire. With the wealth gained from his share of the Inca loot, and a decree from the King of Spain, he obtained the right to finance an expedition to explore and conquer what is now the Southeastern United States. De Soto’s army composed the first and last Europeans to see the interior of North America, before European diseases devastated the thickly settled population of the region. De Soto died near the Mississippi River.  Only a handful of the 600+ conquistadors that embarked with him in Cuba, returned alive to Mexico.

The Popular Wig In The Middle Century Time « follow your idol

Wig hair was so popular among men between the 16th till late 19th Century. The ancient Maya people began to adopt dress wig and influences from other cultures in the eary 17th Century and the banyan is the earliest example of this. It is thought that men adopted the banyan wig design from Persian and Asian inspired clothing Banyan in Portugese, Arabic and Gujarati all meaning merchant. At the time of the mid 17th century a popular penchant for the exotic and oriental had become a mainstream fascination in Europe. This exotic and oriental wig was a leading influence on the success of the banyan, this name being predecessor to the dressing gown. Also described in texts as a morning gown, robe de chambre or nightgown, the banyan was a loose floor length robe....

Time to Stop Playing Indian

It is predictable. At Halloween, thousands of children (and adults) trick-or-treat in Indian costumes. At Thanksgiving, thousands of children parade in school pageants wearing plastic headdresses and pseudo-buckskin clothing. Shops stock holiday greeting cards with images of cartoon animals wearing feathered headbands and load shelves with Indian figurines. Thousands of teachers and librarians trim bulletin boards with Anglo-featured, feathered Indian boys and girls.

Fall and winter are also the seasons when hundreds of millions of sports fans root for professional, college and public school teams with names that summon up American Indians—Braves, Redskins, Chiefs. War-whooping team mascots are imprinted on team clothing, pennants, notebooks, tote bags, towels and car floor mats.

All of this seems innocuous; why make a fuss about it? Because sports trappings and holiday symbols offend tens of thousands of Native...
