MANLA, Philippines -- By combining Asian and European influences and by taking its cue from urban and grunge elements, the Hong Kong brand 5cm has been producing subtle yet avant-garde collections that have made it a cult fashion favorite.
Its Fall-Winter 2011 collection, dubbed Royal We, continues to plumb the varieties of understated cool. Here, 5cm is inspired by the imperial power of British royalty, “with a new yet rebellious interpretation,” with a color palette of red, blue, green, black, white, and gray and a pattern mix of Scottish-style prints, polka dots, and stripes. Noticeable pieces include drop-crotch and cropped pants, suit jackets with metal accessories (such as a brooch and sneaker boots with white soles), and a drape-cut, denim cardigan.
The current collection is available here in the Philippines, as carried by 5cm stores at the SM Mall of Asia and the Rockwell Power Plant mall.
Since its Philippine debut in April, 2009, 5cm has no “direct competition in terms of styling and designs” in the local retail scene, according to 5cm local handler Gregan 101 Corporation. “We would like to be the go-to store for menswear that is fashion-forward, innovative, and design driven,” says Paul Arnaez, a 5cm marketing manager.

The overdue decision to cut rates was unexpected and came despite inflation in the 17-country euro zone staying at 3.0 percent for a second month running in October, well above the ECB’s target of just below 2 percent.
“What a starter. It is obvious that the ECB has caught the crisis virus and is trying everything it can to prevent a full-fledged recession,” ING economist Carsten Brzeski said.
“Now, the big question for the press conference is whether the ECB is also willing to do everything to prevent a further escalation of the sovereign debt crisis, becoming the unconditional lender of last resort of the euro zone....
